Using two pulleys, a rope, and a couple poles, loggers made a jammer to lift heavy loads of logs. The poles were put together to support a pulley. The log was lifted by pulling one end of the rope that looped through the two pulleys with the other end attached to a log. Heavy loads used horses to pull the rope.
