Description:
Plane consists of a wood block with a mortise cut across the center of the body to hold cutting blade. Cutting blade is held in place with a wood wedge. The jack plane is used for straightening the edges of boards, sizing stock, or jointing edges. It was used after a scrub plane and before a jointer plane and smooth plane.

The jack plane was the most used of all bench planes. It would be used to quickly plane off wood surfaces. Either a smooth plane or fore plane was used to finish the work.
